Removal of Plaque and Tartar (Scale and Clean procedure)
Preventative Dentistry Schofields

Plaque is responsible for most tooth decay, gum disease, and tooth loss. Plaque can be removed by thorough daily brushing and flossing. As plaque builds up, the bacteria produce acids which attack teeth and resulting in tooth decay. Harmful chemicals from plaque bacteria irritate gum tissue and can cause inflammation of the gums called gingivitis. With prompt and proper dental care, this inflammation can quickly cured. If gum disease is not treated promptly, can cause a condition called periodontitis which affects the supporting bone of the teeth. Once plaque hardens, it becomes tartar, which cannot be removed by normal brushing.

MB Dental NSW uses special cleaning instruments called Ultrasonic scaler to remove tartar from teeth surfaces. Tartar is also called calculus and calculus removal procedure called scaling and clean followed by professional application of concentrated fluoride treatment.

Application of Fissure Sealants
Preventive Dental Care Riverstone

Fissures are the grooves that naturally occur on the biting surfaces of teeth. All molars and premolars have fissures to some degree. If the fissures are very deep and narrow, toothbrush bristles cannot fit inside to clean out food particles. Trapped food particles attracts bacteria, which grows within the fissures and makes a sticky coating called plaque. Plaque acids eats into the tooth enamel and cause decay. Not all fissures are often prone to decay, only the deepest and narrowest fissures are at risk. A fissure is five times more likely to develop decay than other tooth surfaces. In children and adolescents, the chewing surfaces of molars and premolars are the most vulnerable. Many studies have shown that fissure sealants are effective in reducing the occurrence of tooth decay. MB Dental NSW may suggest the use of high quality fissure sealants application after an examination of your child’s or teenager’s teeth.
